Re-Mixing
Here’s what we do…
A truly different version…
When we say remixing, we’re not referring to when you have a previously recorded song, that has been mixed together in the past, but you would like it to be re-balanced in a different and more modern way. This is an audio engineering procedure and is really covered on the mixing page.
What we mean by remixing here, is when you have an element or elements of a track (your own or even a track by another artist) that you really like and you want to create it in to a different version or style of music. This method is common practice with all forms of dance music and any commercial release.
If you do a YouTube search of your favourite songs, you will highly likely find a number of different versions out there. These are called remixes and are there intentionally. When a record company releases a song, they will hire different producers to provide them with remixed versions of it, in different styles. The idea behind it, is that if you have a great song done in let’s say, a pop style, it will not land properly with people who don’t listen to pop. Therefore, several versions will be released to cover many different genre’s and maximise the audience coverage.
You may also want a remix doing, to modify or modernise a cover song that you are using in your act, to give it a more personalised sound.
Moyr Remixing…
I take my remixing influences from style like EDM, House Music, Disco, Pop and Trance. There are dozens of sub categories within those headings, but my goal would be to get your track accepted by those audiences. There have been many cases where the remixed version of a track has made the track a much bigger success…Mike Posner (I took a pill in Ibiza) 1.3 billion YT view vs 39 million original views. The Avener (Fade Out Lines) 60 million YT views to 2.9 million original views, you can web search the rest, the list is almost endless.
The way a remix works, is that I will need access to the original recordings, so I can separate out the tracks individually. Of those tracks, I will keep some of the main hooks and ideas and re-write the rest of them in the style I’m going for. So then, if you have a rock song and also a remixed version of it, then one will be played on rock playlists and one on dance playlists. It would also be played in clubs. You’re audience just got a whole lot bigger!
