Promotion Campaign
Here’s what we do…
Why do I need a promotional campaign?
So many artists think they can record a great track, stick it on social media and wait for the world to jump on it. That almost never happens. There has to be as much effort put in to a sustained promotional campaign as there has been in creating the track(s).
Traditionally, an artist would record a few song, play a few gigs, pester record companies to take an interest, until they either did or the artist ran out of steam. If the record company did take an interest, they would give them a recording contract. A record company is just a big marketing machine, nothing else. They take what the artist has to offer, refine it and then push it in to all areas of the music world. They don’t however do anything for free.
A recording contract would mean the record company is willing to put some money upfront and take the risk that the artist will make more money back for them. They would first give an advance. Let’s say you were a 4 piece band and your advance was £50k. From that money, you have to take a living wage for the band members, pay for the recording of the album, any promotional costs, video costs etc. If the band were lucky enough to make it big, they would take a cut of all the album sales and would have to pay that 50k back to the record company.
Todays recording contracts look a little different. There isn’t as much money in music as there used to be, certainly not on music sales alone. Today a recording contract would be what is termed ‘a 360 deal’. That means the record company has shares in all aspects of the artists life. From TV and radio play, to merchandise sales, to ticket sales, to anything the artist makes money from (song publishing is a little different).
Fortunately in this day and age, you don’t have to have a record company believe in you at the beginning in order to get noticed. You can believe in yourself and promote yourself by taking your own financial risk upfront and investing in a promotional campaign. A modern record company will take no interest in an artist if they haven’t already done some of the ground work themselves and they can see some traction happening with their audience engagement.
The goal of a promotional campaign is to
- Build a fanbase
- Create super fans
- Converts listeners in to fans
- Increase music sales/streams
- Achieve radio play
- Get noticed by the music press
- Get more gigs
- Improve gigs
- Create a professional image
- Generate more income
- Get the attention of a major record company
- Build you in to a brand
How does it work?
There are many options that can be undertaken with a campaign of this type. There are no set prices really, as each campaign needs a certain amount of time dedicating to each area. Some of those areas the artist may wish to manage themselves (like their own Facebook for instance). Some artists may want to focus all their energy in to being an artist and let us do everything for them. A campaign is typically 30 days, but could be shorter. It includes all the things specified in the pricing section. Each module within the pricing section can be removed or added separately, which effects the price either way. We will design the campaign around your requirement, budget and what you’re hoping to achieve.
All these pricing packages give you access to the full tools and technology of Moyr Productions. As they are laid out, you will get 1 to 4 weeks of total time dedicated to your campaign from various professionals. That time will spread across the 30 day campaign. So the all singing all dancing Platinum package, it’s like having one person dedicated, all day, everyday for the entire campaign. However, in reality, many people will be involved.
